Your investments should be working as hard as you did to earn them.

Some of our clients’ portfolios are managed by another team of veterans: Stonebridge Capital Advisors. Many of our Stonebridge asset managers are CFAs (Chartered Financial Analysts) which is the “gold standard” credential for investment and financial professionals. Our Stonebridge investment team is focused solely on public markets portfolio management (stocks, ETFs, bonds) which is led by industry veteran John Schonberg, CFA and Chief Investment Officer.

"Most investors know the basics - stocks, bonds, ETFs. What they don't always have is a portfolio that's actually built around their goals, their timeline, and their tax situation. That's the difference between owning investments and having an investment strategy."

Tailored to Your Goals

There is no model portfolio that gets applied to everyone.

Stonebridge portfolio managers work alongside the Clear Direction team to understand your income needs, risk tolerance, time horizon, and tax situation to construct clients’ asset accordingly. The portfolio for a 45-year-old business owner looks nothing like the one for a 68-year-old retiree, i.e. investment customization is of primary importance.

Active Management With Discipline

Markets change. Life changes. Your portfolio should respond to both.

The Stonebridge team actively monitors positions, evaluates risk, and adjusts based on both market conditions and your evolving situation. Institutional-grade oversight without the institutional-grade minimum that typically comes with it. We create/manage SMAs (Separately Managed Accounts) because they are individualized to each client/investor…they are preferred, in particular, for non-retirement accounts because SMAs allow us to “tax harvest” in a tax friendly manner to benefit clients’ taxable outcomes.

Coordinated With Your Full Plan

Your portfolio doesn't exist in isolation.

It needs to work alongside your real estate holdings, retirement accounts, tax situation, and long-term planning goals. Clear Direction manages both the investment side and the broader financial planning relationship. As a result, every strategy and account registration is coordinated. Investors do not get tax efficiency in mutual fund/wrap accounts which many other advisory firms use for “their” simplicity…therefore we manage SMAs for clients as it’s in their best interest. It’s more work for us, but it’s a value our clients appreciate.

Frequently Asked Questions

Most of these strategies require accredited investor status - generally individual income over $200,000 (or $300,000 joint) for two consecutive years, or a net worth over $1 million excluding your primary residence. A 15-minute call is usually enough to determine whether any of these strategies apply to your situation.

What does 'actively managed' actually mean for my portfolio?

It means your portfolio is not set on autopilot. The Stonebridge team monitors positions, evaluates risk, and makes changes based on both market conditions and changes in your life. A retiree drawing income needs a different approach than someone still accumulating. Active management means the portfolio responds to both.

Index funds and robo-advisors apply a model to everyone. We do not. Your portfolio is built around your specific income needs, timeline, tax situation, and risk tolerance - and it is coordinated with your real estate holdings, retirement accounts, and planning goals. That coordination does not happen in an automated platform.
